Mothers is ok. But I always used Meguiars for leather care. I have Meguiars rich leather gel at home for when I detail my car and also keep a container of Meguiars rich leather wipes whenever I have to clean my interior while away from my house.

Honestly, I've never used leather care for my car. I don't think it's worth the extra money but that's just me.
I've personally seen what years of wear and tear can do to a leather interior of a car. Your worst enemy is the sun. It dries up the leather interior then after several years you will start to see cracking. Taking care of your leather interior will prolong its life.

This is what happens after a few years of neglect. The $9 every 2-3 months that it cost to buy leather wipes far outweighs the cost of getting everything reupholstered once they start cracking.

I agree that preventive maintenance is definitely worth lesser than a complete overhaul maintenance of the leather. I always keep a pack of leather wipes in the glove compartment and give them a mild wipe every now and then so as to ensure they are not in a faded state at any one time.
