Default Tough morning starts??

Has anyone had some troubles starting their car in the winter months so far?

I tried starting mine after a cold night last night and I almost thought it wasn't going to turn over at first. It was struggling at first then I gently revved it up and it stayed on. Made sure I left it running a good 5 mins before I drove away.

PS: I hate winter!

Did you have the block heater plugged in........better yet, does the Genesis offer a block heater for the engine?

No issues yet. I would monitor that and see if it happens again while you are under warranty.

Maybe time to get a remote start to warm it up a bit before you drive off?

No I didn't.

It only happened that once but it has been as cold as that day anymore.

Still worried a bit. Under the impression that a remote car starter is harder to start your car then just using a key?

A remote start is harder on the car to turn over but should not be that bad.

I have looked at getting a remote start installed and looks like it will run about $300 - $500 dollars with install, with an alarm system on it as well. I think this just may turn out to be my first modification to my Genesis.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but what was the outside temp when you had the starting problem?

Mine did a similar thing this week, what is this block heater you speak of - do we have one installed by factory?

Never assume you are over reacting with a new car....it is much better to take it to a dealership and get the problem fixed then if you leave it and the problem gets worse and worse. That would be on my high list of things to watch out for if it happens again.

I had a weird thing happen yesterday with my 3.8 track automatic. It started fine in my garage. Then I drove about six miles, turned it off and went into a store for about 5 minutes. I punched the start button with foot on the brake of course and nothing happened other than that momentary whirring sound you get when you push the starter button. I tried it again and it started but sounded hesitant. I then drove it about six more miles and left it for about an hour. When I tried to start it again nothing. This time I tried repeatedly but it wouldn't turn over. I called Hyundai roadside and they came and jumped it and it started immediately. I then drove to the dealer and the battery checked out fine. I make sure I lock it every time I park, even in my garage. Today after sitting in my garage for about 14 hours it started fine. Tonight I went out to dinner and a play for about 4 hours and again starting was hesitant but it did start. I live in GA and the temp is about 35 dgrees so it's not cold. I don't have anything plugged into any of the power outlets. Has anybody had this happen to them? It sure seems to me like something is or was draining the battery.

Wow, that is strange. Haven't had anything like that happen before.

Book it in to Hyundai and have them check out the battery, starter and the alternator. For some reason something isn't clicking.

Can you hear the engine trying to turn over or just the initial drone of the battery?

No, the engine didn't try to turn over. It hasn't happened again. I'm almost over the trepidation I felt whenever I pushed the start button. Thx for the reply.

Sounds like a connection somewhere between the battery, starter and alternator. Get them to check it out. It could also just be a bum starter or solenoid. I have seen it happen before on other Hyundai cars.

For you that have been having troubles I can only assume that you are leaving the cars out over night, right? What kind of temperatures is it getting down to at night?

Block heater would be a great consideration if you don't have one included on your car from factory.
