Report: Hyundai Genesis, Equus To Get AWD, Next Genesis Coupe To Rival M3 - Hyundai Genesis Sedan: Genesis Sedan Forums

Hyundai CEO John Krafcik confirmed to Autoblog that their next generation of Genesis, Genesis Coupe and Equus rear-drive cars would also be offered with all-wheel-drive.

While no powertrains have been announced for any of the cars, the news of AWD will be welcome for those in the Snowbelt states, where traction going to all four wheels is so prevalent that most dealers don't even bother to order rear-drive variants of cars like the Infiniti G, and Mercedes C, E and S-Class sedans.

Autoblog also dropped a vague hint that the next Genesis Coupe will go "upmarket" next time, perhaps setting its sights on the BMW M3 rather than the current crop of pony cars. Honestly, the Genesis Coupe, while a decent car, might want to set its sights on the Ford Mustang 5.0, which seems to have the bargain-M3 formula down to a science.

Hyundai is milking this as long as they can. They've been slowly giving us new information about the upcoming cars little by little. First the announcement of the 5.0L V8 for the Equus and the Genesis sedan. Then rumors of the same engine being available for the Genesis coupe. Now AWD being available to the Equus and Genesis and the coupe being a rival to the M3. I think the next announcement will be a 5.0L 429hp V8 Genesis coupe with AWD.

I would literally piss my pants if they made a V8 Genesis coupe. I would probably end up back at the dealer buying a coupe to match my Black sedan.

People in M3's, G35's, 350Z's will piss their pants when they try to pull away from you if Hyundai comes out with the V8 GC. That thing is going to be quick for just a fraction of the price of the other competitors.
